[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Το ρ. μύρω / μύρομαι συνδέεται πιθ. με το ρ. μορμύρω* (ενεστ. με διπλασιασμό), αλλά η σημ. τού ρήματος η σχετική με την αφθονία «χύνω ποτάμια δάκρυα», «κυλώ, ρέω» για ποταμό ή για θάλασσα επιτρέπει να συνδεθεί το ρ. με τους τ. μυρίος και πλημυρίς (βλ. λ. μυρίος). Το ρ., τέλος, εμφανίζεται ως β' συνθετικό στα σύνθ. ἁλι-μυρήεις* και ἁλι-μυρής*].
